We, the staff of Fraternity & Sorority Life at the University of Pittsburgh, want to extend to all the parents of our fraternity and sorority chapter members, a most humble welcome and a gracious thank you for supporting your son's/daughter's endeavors as they explore all the possibilities that becoming a member of our fraternities and sororities can offer. We understand that sending a child away to school can be very stressful, but we want to assure you that your child will take away a plethora of experiences that will enhance their leadership skills, both personally and professionally, and prepare them with lifelong skills.

Acclimating to a new cultural experience can create undue stress on any student, however, Fraternity & Sorority Life at the University of Pittsburgh has made a commitment to each new member to enhance their ability to adapt to our campus environment by providing them opportunities to interact with individuals of various interests, cultures, ethnic, and racial backgrounds as well as opportunities to develop friendships marked by deep-seated loyalty and camaraderie.

What can you do as a parent to help in your son's/daughter's decision on which fraternity/sorority to join? Researching the various local and national chapter websites with your son/daughter is a way you can help. This will also give you valuable insight as to what opportunities the organizations have available. You will find out how each chapter develops their leaders, organizes community service, and enhances academics.

Here at the University of Pittsburgh, we go to great lengths to promote a safe social scene. Every fraternity and sorority social sponsored function includes teams of brothers or sisters devoted to what has become known as "Risk Management." They maintain close contact with the University Police and are often trained for basic emergency procedures.
